VidaEV โ€” Revolutionizing the Electric Vehicle Experience

Designing a Comprehensive Platform for EV Charging, Battery Management, and Vehicle Monitoring

[Project Overview]

VidaEV is a mobile app designed from scratch for a US-based client entering the electric vehicle space. The platform brings together everything an EV owner needs โ€” charging station discovery, battery management, vehicle health monitoring, and interactive maps โ€” all in one app. I led the entire design from research to developer handoff.

[Problem Statement]

The platform struggled with a 40% cart abandonment rate during checkout. Users encountered unclear error messages, redundant fields, and poor mobile optimization, leading to frustration and drop-offs.

[Persona]

James Walker

Software Engineer & EV Owner

James recently bought his first electric vehicle. He loves the technology but finds it frustrating to juggle multiple apps for charging, battery health, and route planning.

Age: 29

Location: San Francisco, CA

Tech Proficiency: High

Gender: Male

[Goal]

Find Chargers Fast: Locate nearby available charging stations with real-time availability.

Monitor Battery Health: See battery status and vehicle health in a simple, visual dashboard.

Plan Trips Confidently: Plan routes knowing exactly where to charge along the way.

[Frustrations]

Too Many Apps: "I have one app for charging, another for battery health, and another for maps.

Confusing Data: "The battery screen shows me voltage and cell temperatures.

Unreliable Charger Info: "I drive to a charger and it's either broken or occupied.

[Process]

[01] User Research

Conducted interviews with 15 EV owners to understand their daily pain points and charging habits.

Analyzed competitor apps (ChargePoint, PlugShare, Tesla app) to identify feature gaps and UX weaknesses.

Mapped the full EV owner journey from daily commute to long-distance road trips.

[02] Insights

EV owners want a single dashboard that combines charging, battery, and vehicle status .

Real-time charger availability was the most requested feature.

Battery health data needed to be simplified into visual indicators (good/fair/poor)

[03 Design Solution]

Designed a unified home dashboard showing battery level, nearest chargers, and vehicle health at a glance.

Built an interactive map with real-time charger availability, filters for charger type and speed.

Created a simplified battery health view using visual indicators and plain language instead of raw data.

[04] Testing & Iteration

Conducted usability testing with 12 EV owners on the prototype.

Iterated on the map interface โ€” users wanted charger filters visible by default, not hidden behind a menu

Simplified the dashboard after feedback showed users only wanted 3 key metrics visible at once, not 6.
